Salut from Paris!
My cinematographer left for the airport this morning. And looking back on these past 6 days, it feels more like a month’s worth of time. Every day was a marathon, waking up around 6 or 7 am and then working till after midnight. For most of the shoot it was just the two of us. So while my cinematographer, Aaron Torres, was masterfully shooting everything, I had to organize everything else! I produced, I directed, I did my own hair and make-up, I carried the equipment, and of course I hosted the show! So needless to say, I am very very tired!
I can’t even begin to describe how exciting this has all been. I kept wanting to pinch myself along the way, to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. How often do you do a stand-up in front of Sacre Coeur or the Eiffel tower? Shopping in the Marais…swing dancing on the banks of the Seine River. Of course there was more to it than that, but the whole experience made me so happy. It was interesting to really feel how, although Paris is a big metropolitan city, it also has a very tranquil quality to it. Ingrained in the culture here is an emphasis on enjoying oneself. So after a morning of really pushing ourselves, my cameraman and I would then sit in a cafe and have a calm, enjoyable lunch. Then it was back to work!
In 2006, I studied abroad in Paris during my last semester of college, so I have friends here. And my friends truly pulled through for me. From driving us around, to putting us up, to participating in scenes, they made this show very personal. Right this moment, I sit in the kitchen at my friend’s house in Paris, excited about my next adventure in the city. But for now I am going back to bed!
XOXO
